Calling All Groups! Trip Applications Available!

Inner City Outings is looking forward to a successful 2011 white water rafting season. This past year hundreds of participants rode the rapids of the American, Kings, and Trinity rivers with us. We invite you to join us this new season and share the excitement and challenge of the river in addition to the warmth and camaraderie of the campfire with our white water volunteer leaders.

Inner City Outings (ICO) is a Sierra Club community outreach program. ICO volunteer leaders work with community agencies and schools to provide wilderness opportunities for people who would not otherwise have them. Our rafting trips teach teamwork, outdoor leadership skills and environmental awareness. We supply rafting, camping and cooking equipment, trained volunteer guides and transportation for the gear and guides.

The estimated cost is $40 to $60 per person for a weekend trip, and $25 to $35 per person for a one-day trip. These estimates are only for expenses incurred for the trip, such as food, camping, transportation, land use permits and other miscellaneous fees. ICO does not collect any money. Financial assistance is available.

The rafting season begins in early-May and runs until September. If your group would like to raft with ICO this season, please fill out the application (available here: http://ico.sierraclub.org/sfbayrafting/outreach.htm) and choose your dates carefully. Most groups who apply can be accommodated but trips in May and June are typically the most sought after and flexibility in dates is important. Our trips are typically on the South Fork of the American River. However, if you would like to go on another river, please state that on the application. We have run trips on other Class 3 rivers such as the Trinity and Upper Sacramento River, which are approximately 4 hours north of the Bay Area, the Kings River, which is approximately 5 hours south of the Bay Area. We have rafted the East Carson, which is a scenic Class II river. We also have run trips on advanced rivers such as the Merced and the Tuolumne Rivers.

This season we have moved up the application deadline to February 15 to provide an earlier date for your scheduled trip. The intent is to provide more time for planning and coordinating with your trip leader. For those groups that don’t make the deadline, we will accept rolling applications through March 31 to accommodate you, but the benefit to apply early is increased likelihood of getting your preferred date. Applications are available here: http://ico.sierraclub.org/sfbayrafting/outreach.htm
